People often ask me how I developed my style, and how I create images that stand out in today's highly competitive wedding market. Well, I am a fine art wedding photographer. My approach applies fine art photography to the living, breathing, fast-moving phenomenon that is a wedding. For me, it is all about making something beautiful. Ultimately, my goal is to craft vibrant, energetic, fine art images that are as unique as the people in the photographs.

I'm humbled to say that I have been published in many magazines around the world including, Martha Stewart Weddings, Vogue, HarpersBazaar, Vogue Italia, Vogue Mexico, Vogue Bride Australia, Vogue Bride Japan, Elegant Bride, InStyle Weddings, Inside Weddings, BRIDES, Modern Bride, Pacific Weddings, Southern Weddings, Cosmo Bride, PDN, American Photo, and many more.

Flowers and Photography go hand in hand especially with a wedding. Jose Villa is our guest this week and he shares so much insight into working with the photographers and learning how to make sure your flowers look their very best.

Show Notes

  1. When people question your pricing look at it as learning opportunity. You may need to examine where you are in the marketplace and adjust.

  2. I love the idea of Presets to help convert your digital images into more film looking tones and colors.

  3. By developing relationships with photographers you may be able to receive promotion worthy images by just making sure you give the credit and possible referral work.

  4. Speak with your planner or event manager, especially for a wedding, to encourage guests to not use their cell phones or tablets in ways that would interfere with your clients images.

  5. Jose mentioned it was a great idea to use your phone’s light source for back lighting when taking a photograph.

  6. When you or your client are working with a new photographer ask to see their portfolio or least images from a few events to help you get a feel for their eye and their work.

  7. Make sure you coordinate with the photographers about timing to make the most of the available light when needed. Working with the photographer will showcase your floral work in the best lighting.
