Margo and Steve Galic

Fox Leaf Farm

Margo and Steve Fox Leaf Farm is run by Margo and Steve Galic out of Stanwood WA, and specializes in Sarracenia (Pitcher Plants) for both horticultural and floral use. We’ve been growing Sarracenia for nearly a decade, cultivating one of the largest species collections of Sarracenia Flava and Sarracenia Leucophylla in the US. We leverage this extensive collection and our deep knowledge of Sarracenia habitat in our breeding program. Our farm’s goal is to create Sarracenia unlike anything ever seen in the wild; focusing on improving color, size and vigor through selective breeding, and to make both cuts and eventually plants available to florists and farmers.

Show Notes

  1. Sarracenia is a wonderful cut flower or should I say leaf and flower.  Learning more about growing these specialty cut flowers is important to preserving the various species grown in the wild.

  2. Many of the sarracenia species have been threatened due to over cutting out of the wild. Now more than ever it’s important to learn how to grow these special plants.

  3. It’s incredible to think that there are 11 species of sarracenia that are all native to North America.

  4. Like many perennials its may take several years to grow and mature this plant before being able to cut them, but it’s worth it.

  5. Seed may be difficult at first, but it’s a great way and quickest way to grow and increase the number of plants you have if you want to be a grower.

  6. I loved what Steve said about killing lots of plants while on the road to success.  Perseverance and passion have led to another flower being saved for our future.
